Azay-le-Rideau Benefits from a Reinforced Sanitation Network
The commune of Azay-le-Rideau is best known for its 16th century Renaissance castle. Apart from being frequented by tourists, Azay-le-Rideau also houses a steadily growing population which requires a safe and modern sanitation infrastructure. Pipelife's sturdy PP Master sewerage pipe system was used to strengthen the undersized and outdated wastewater network in the area. The improved network will also allow for further population growth in the future.
Flourishing Heritage Site in Need of Modernization
Built on an island in the Indre River, the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is among the most popular tourist destinations in the Loire Valley, France, and considered one of the prime examples of French renaissance architecture. The Château has also lent the name to the surrounding commune, which currently houses more than 3,500 inhabitants and keeps growing with several new housing estates being under construction.
The previously constructed wastewater network in Azay-le-Rideau had become dated. With population increasing, it no longer could handle the load to ensure a safe environment for the surrounding community. Furthermore, the growing road traffic was causing severe mechanical stress on the previously installed pipes, damaging their walls.
Additional challenges had to be considered to modernize the existing sewerage system successfully. Due to the already existing underground infrastructure, the wastewater network in Azay-le-Rideau has a decreased slope. This slows down the sewage flow, increasing the risks of clogging as well as extending pipe exposure to chemical substances
Piping Solutions for Most Demanding Conditions
Pipelife's PP Master pipes were selected to improve the existing sewerage network and reinforce it to meet the modern safety and environmental standards. The PP Master DN 200, SN 16 pipes were used together with Pipelife's PRO DN 1000 manholes for a complete wastewater management system that is highly resistant to corrosion and will ensure reliable service life for several years.
The PP Master was chosen for this project due to its superior impact resistance, even with a minimum depth of cover. The pipe consists of three polypropylene (PP) layers ensuring high ring stiffness and tensile strength. It has excellent flow properties along with high resistance to chemicals, temperature fluctuations, and abrasion.
PP pipes are also completely unaffected by stray currents from nearby electricity networks and other underground structures. Furthermore, Pipelife’s PP Master systems include a wide range of accessories for quick and hassle-free installation.
