Today's residential developers and contractors face a number of challenges when it comes to meeting project deadlines, homeowners' expectations and regulatory demands. Pipelife's electrical conduit systems helped expedite the construction of two state-of-the-art multistory buildings in Tampere, Finland. The contractor and his installer team reveal how the works have been going and why they opted for Pipelife's electrical range.
Ranta-Tampella residential area is a fast-growing district in Tampere, Finland's second-largest city. Situated on the shores of the scenic Lake Näsijärvi, Ranta-Tampella offers a unique extension of Tampere's city center, combining the advantages of an urban lifestyle with the closeness of nature.
Here, two upmarket apartment complexes are currently being developed by the YIT Group. Scheduled for completion in early 2024, the high-rise buildings will feature 211 contemporary apartments.
One of the contractors working on the project is Kaapelipojat Oy — an established electrical installations provider serving both private customers and real estate developers. For the large-scale development at Ranta-Tampella, Kaapelipojat relies on the extensive range of electrical conduits from Pipelife Finland's portfolio.
"Pipelife's products are of high quality, have excellent functionality and are reasonably priced," Miika Parkkonen, Managing Director of Kaapelipojat Oy, sums up his choice.
Modern multistory buildings have intricate layouts and varying floor plans that require careful planning and execution of electrical installations. Cable conduits not only facilitate and speed up installation but also protect electrical cables — ensuring their reliable service throughout the lifetime of the building.
At Ranta-Tampella, PVC conduits are currently laid throughout intermediate floors and walls, and Janne Lähteenmäki is one of the installers working at the site. When approached, he is installing wiring through the floors while his colleague is working on partition walls.
The experienced installer appreciates that Pipelife's PVC conduits are not only durable but also feature a low-friction silicone inner layer, which speeds up wiring and facilitates using a bending spring.
"The silicone surface is really helpful when it comes to tighter bends — I no longer have to do wiring holding a can of lubricant in one hand," Lähteenmäki says with a smile.
Pre-wired conduits from Pipelife's brand Preflex are also widely used at the Ranta-Tampella project. The pre-wired conduit system has earned installer praise due to its easily recognizable color coding — the conduits are available in seven distinct colors, one for each cable type.
This means the chances of installing the wrong wiring for a certain appliance are reduced to a bare minimum.
"Color coding is the thing," Lähteenmäki states enthusiastically. "When you carry a bundle of different conduits with you, and you don't have to go through the whole pile one by one every time — you can immediately tell what type of wiring is inside just by looking at the sheathing... It really makes the installation faster and easier."
Tuomo Savolainen, Sales Manager at Pipelife Finland, is also on-site at Ranta-Tampella. To him, making sure that everything goes smoothly and hearing the client's feedback is crucial. He reveals that Pipelife and Kaapelipojat Oy have already worked together on other large-scale construction projects before.
"Our collaboration has been going very well, and we have received valuable insights about our products," Savolainen says. "At Pipelife, we continuously keep improving our portfolio; thus, receiving feedback from sites is invaluable."
Miika Parkkonen echoes the sentiment: "We have been relying on these products for years, and the price-performance ratio offered by Pipelife is excellent. They also have great customer service, which means that everything simply works out."
